Full analysis of the six dimensions of polyester and ammonia mesh principle, process application and maintenance

Polyester spandex mesh is an elastic mesh fabric made of polyester fiber as the base and spandex fiber as the elastic component. It is woven through knitting or weaving processes. It combines the stiffness and wear resistance of polyester, the high elasticity and resilience of spandex, and the breathable and light-transmitting properties of mesh. It is widely used in sportswear, underwear, industrial protection and other fields. It is a commonly used fabric in the textile industry that combines functionality and aesthetics. The following is a detailed explanation from the six core dimensions to provide reference for industry material selection and application.

1. Principles: core mechanism of performance advantages

The characteristics of polyurethane mesh come from the dual effects of fiber performance synergy and mesh structure design:

  1. Fiber synergy mechanism: Polyester fiber molecular chain structure is stable, with high breaking strength and excellent wrinkle resistance, which gives the fabric good dimensional stability and is not easy to deform; spandex fiber (adding ratio 5%-20%) is polyurethane elastic fiber, and the soft segment of the molecular chain can be stretched to 4-7 times its original length, with a rebound rate of over 95%, providing long-lasting elasticity to the mesh and achieving the effect of "stretching without sagging and setting without tightening".

  2. Principle of mesh breathability: The fabric uses low-density interweaving of warp and weft yarns or knitting and looping technology to form regular mesh (aperture 0.2-1.5mm optional), with a porosity of up to 40%-60%, which accelerates air circulation and sweat evaporation; at the same time, the elastic mesh can stretch and shrink with human body activities, fitting the body shape without restraint, and is suitable for close-fitting clothing scenes.

2. Technology: key processes of weaving and finishing

The production of polyester and ammonia mesh is divided into three core links: raw material pretreatment - weaving and shaping - finishing. Each step requires precise control of parameters:

  1. Raw material pre-treatment: Polyester filament (commonly used in 75D/36F, 100D/48F specifications) is treated with antistatic treatment to avoid fuzzing and breakage during weaving; spandex yarn is made into core-spun yarn using a polyester coating process to prevent aging caused by direct exposure of spandex. The elastic elongation of the core-spun yarn is controlled at 200%-300%.

  2. Weaving process

    • Knitting process: Use a jacquard warp knitting machine or weft knitting machine with a needle pitch of 28G-32G. By adjusting the yarn feeding speed and needle bed arrangement, different mesh shapes such as rhombus, square, and hexagon can be knitted. The fabric weight is controlled at 50-150g/㎡, which is suitable for light and thin clothing;

    • Weaving process: suitable for thick industrial polyurethane mesh. The warp and weft yarns are interwoven with plain weave to improve the tensile strength of the fabric. The weight can reach 150-250g/㎡ to meet the protection needs.

  3. Post-finishing process: first pre-shaping at 150-160℃ to eliminate the internal stress of the weaving, and then dyeing with disperse dyes (suitable for polyester). The dyeing temperature is controlled at 110-120℃ to avoid high temperature damage to the elasticity of the spandex; finally, softeners, antibacterial agents or anti-UV additives are applied to enhance the additional functions of the fabric, and the final setting temperature of the finished product does not exceed 140℃.

3. Application Category: Accurate adaptation to multi-domain scenarios

With its elasticity and breathability advantages, polyurethane mesh covers multiple segments:

  1. In the field of sportswear: used to make yoga clothes, running vests, and basketball clothing splicing parts. The elastic mesh fits the range of motion, and the mesh accelerates perspiration to avoid stuffiness and stickiness during exercise;

  2. Underwear and home furnishing field: Produces bra side panels, underwear waistbands, and pajamas lace splicing. The high elasticity is suitable for different body types. The mesh is light and breathable to improve wearing comfort;

  3. Industrial protection field: As a breathable layer for protective clothing, mesh lining for shoes, and bag mesh, it is wear-resistant and stretch-resistant, and the mesh structure achieves dual functions of breathability and protection;

  4. Fashion clothing field: used for hollow designs of women's dresses and shirts, splicing mesh and solid color fabrics to enhance the fashion and layering of clothing.

4. Maintenance: Fabric storage and cleaning skills

1. Fabric storage and maintenance

  • Storage environment: Place in a cool and dry warehouse with a temperature of 15-30°C and a relative humidity of less than 60%. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent aging and yellowing of polyester and attenuation of elasticity of spandex;

  • Stacking requirements: roll fabrics should be placed vertically to avoid mesh deformation caused by heavy pressure; fabrics of different colors should be stored separately and sealed to prevent dye migration; fabrics should be kept away from sharp objects to avoid snagging.

2. Finished product care and maintenance

  • Washing method: Use neutral detergent, hand wash in cold water or gentle machine wash (put in a laundry bag), avoid vigorous rubbing to prevent spandex filament breakage and mesh deformation; bleach and chlorine-containing detergents are prohibited to avoid damaging the fibers;

  • Drying and ironing: Lay flat to dry in a cool and ventilated place, prohibit exposure to the sun; if ironing is required, control the temperature at 100-120°C, iron with a cloth at low temperature, and avoid direct ironing of the mesh area;

  • Special attention: avoid friction with rough surfaces when wearing to prevent mesh snagging; avoid long-term stretching and hanging of elastic fabrics to prevent elastic relaxation.

5. Technology: the core direction of performance upgrades

The technological innovation of polyester and ammonia mesh focuses on two major sectors: fiber modification and process optimization:

  1. Functional modification technology: Develop antibacterial polyester spandex mesh (added with silver ion antibacterial agent), with a bacteriostatic rate of over 99%, suitable for underwear and medical protective clothing linings; introduce moisture wicking modification, accelerate sweat conduction through special-shaped cross-section polyester fibers, and improve the adaptability to sports scenes;

  2. Process optimization direction: Use fine-denier polyester fiber (40D/12F) and spandex blended to improve the fineness and skin-friendly feel of the mesh; develop jacquard mesh technology to add three-dimensional patterns on the basis of the mesh, taking into account functionality and decoration; optimize the spandex coating process to improve the bonding fastness of spandex and polyester, and the elasticity retention rate exceeds 90% after 50 washes;

  3. Environmentally friendly process upgrade: Use recycled polyester fiber to replace virgin polyester to reduce carbon footprint; promote waterless digital printing technology to replace traditional dyeing process and reduce wastewater discharge.

6. Trend Category: The future direction of industry development

As the textile industry transforms toward "comfort, greenness, and personalization," polyester and polyurethane mesh is showing three major development trends:

  1. Green trend: The application proportion of recycled polyester and polyurethane fibers continues to increase, and brands are gradually launching polyester and polyurethane mesh made of 100% recycled raw materials to meet environmental certification and consumer green consumption needs;

  2. Trend of functional compounding: Upgrading from a single elastic and breathable function to a multi-functional compound of "elasticity + antibacterial + anti-UV + anti-mite", suitable for high-end scenes such as outdoor and medical use;

  3. Customization trend: In response to the needs of clothing brands, we provide personalized customization services in terms of mesh shape, aperture size, weight, and elastic coefficient, and develop subdivided categories such as ultra-thin invisible models and thickened protective models.
