Polyester-spandex thick needle printing and hot stamping fabric is a composite knitted fabric that combines elasticity, three-dimensionality and luster. It uses a polyester and spandex blended thick needle base and superimposed printing and hot stamping processes to create a fashionable and eye-catching visual effect. It is widely used in fashionable clothing, home soft furnishings and other fields. This article comprehensively analyzes the core value of this fabric from the six dimensions of principle, process, application, maintenance, technology, and trends.
The core advantage of this fabric comes from the triple combination of raw material properties + coarse knitting + printing and hot stamping technology, which achieves simultaneous improvement in elasticity, texture and appearance:
Raw material blending principle The fabric base is made of polyester + spandex blend, with polyester accounting for 85%-95% to ensure the stiffness, wear resistance and wrinkle resistance of the fabric; spandex accounting for 5%-15%, giving the fabric high elasticity and resilience, and is not easily deformed after stretching. The large coil structure of coarse knitting creates a loose and breathable texture on the surface of the fabric, providing a concave and convex attachment carrier for printing and hot stamping.
The printing process uses dye penetration or ink fixation to combine with the fabric fibers to form a colorful pattern; the hot stamping process uses heat transfer technology to attach the metal-coated hot stamping foil to the surface of the fabric under high temperature and pressure, and forms a strong metallic luster layer after cooling. The gap between the coils of the thick-knit fabric can enhance the adhesion between the pattern and the gold foil and avoid problems such as falling off and cracking.
Fabric production needs to go through four core stages: raw material spinning - coarse knitting - printing and hot stamping - finishing and shaping. Each link directly affects the quality of the finished product:
The raw material for spinning is a blend of polyester low-elastic yarn and spandex yarn. The tensile tension of spandex is controlled during spinning to ensure uniform elasticity of the yarn. Thick-count yarns are commonly used in thick-needle fabrics to improve the fluffiness and breathability of the fabric.
Coarse knitting uses a coarse-gauge circular knitting machine (7G-12G gauges are commonly used) and is woven with plain or rib weave. The gray fabric knitted with a large gauge has thick coils and excellent elasticity; the yarn tension needs to be accurately controlled during weaving to avoid defects such as holes and missing stitches.
Printing and hot stamping processing
Printing process: Priority is given to digital printing technology, which can achieve precise printing of complex patterns and gradient colors, adapting to the needs of small batch customization; roller printing is used for mass production to improve efficiency; after printing, it is steamed and solidified at high temperature to ensure that the color is firm and does not fade.
Hot stamping process: This is the core decoration process. The position of the hot stamping pattern is set through computer engraving and plate making; align the hot stamping foil with the printed gray fabric, send it to the hot stamping machine, and heat press it for 3-5 seconds at a temperature of 120-160°C and a pressure of 5-8kg/cm², so that the metal layer on the gold foil is transferred to the surface of the fabric; partial hot stamping or full-page hot stamping can be achieved to form an overlay effect with the printed pattern.
After finishing and shaping, the fabric is pre-shrunk to control the fabric shrinkage within 3%; an antistatic agent is sprayed to solve the problem of polyester fabrics easily sticking to dust; and finally, high-temperature shaping is used to fix the fabric size and hot stamping pattern to prevent deformation and gold foil falling off after washing.
With the characteristics of high elasticity, good appearance, breathability and comfort, the fabrics are applied in three major fields: trendy clothing, home soft clothing, and stage clothing:
Trendy clothing field: It is a popular fabric for autumn and winter sweatshirts, sweatpants, dresses, and jackets. The elastic design fits the body shape, and the printed hot stamping pattern is highly eye-catching. It is suitable for creating street style and light luxury style wear. This fabric is also often used in children's clothing. The cartoon print is paired with local hot stamping, which is deeply loved by parents and children.
Home soft furnishing field: used to make pillows, cushions, sofa covers, etc. The soft touch of thick-knit fabrics improves home comfort, and the gloss of printed hot stamping makes soft furnishings more decorative, adapting to modern luxury and retro home styles.
In the field of stage clothing: it can be used to produce performance clothing and dance clothing. The bronzing pattern has a bright reflective effect under the light. The elastic fabric can meet the needs of large-scale movements, and is both beautiful and practical.
Since this fabric contains a hot stamping layer, care must be taken to protect the integrity of the gold foil and prevent the pattern from falling off:
Cleaning precautions
The water temperature should be controlled below 30°C. It must be washed by hand or gently machine washed. When machine washing, it must be placed in a laundry bag to avoid strong stirring that may cause the gold foil to crack and fall off;
Use neutral detergent and prohibit the use of bleach and alkaline laundry detergent to prevent fabric fading and elasticity deterioration;
When cleaning, wash inside out to avoid direct friction with the gold foil layer; wash dark and light fabrics separately to prevent color transfer.
Drying and storage
After washing, gently squeeze out the water and lay it flat in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Do not expose it to the sun. High temperatures will cause the spandex to age and the gold foil to oxidize and turn black;
When storing, fold it neatly and put it in a drying closet to avoid heavy pressure and contact with sharp objects; do not hang it for too long to prevent the fabric from stretching and deforming.
Daily maintenance: If the gold foil layer is slightly warped, you can use a low-temperature iron to lightly iron it with a cloth; when the fabric pills, use a ball trimmer to trim it at low speed, and do not pull.
With the upgrade of textile technology, fabrics have achieved multiple innovations in adhesion, functionality, and environmental protection:
The hot stamping adhesion improvement technology develops a special hot melt adhesive and optimizes the hot pressing temperature and time parameters to increase the adhesion between the hot stamping layer and the thick-knit fabric by more than 30%, and the wash fastness can reach level 3 or above, solving the pain point of traditional hot stamping being easy to fall off.
Functional superposition technology adds antibacterial agents and thermal fibers to fabrics to develop antibacterial bronzing fabrics and thermal elastic fabrics; through hydrophilic modification, it improves the moisture absorption and perspiration performance of fabrics and expands its application in the field of sportswear.
The environmentally friendly process upgrade uses water-based printing dyes to replace traditional oil-based dyes to reduce VOCs emissions; it uses degradable hot stamping foil to reduce the environmental hazards of discarded fabrics; some products use recycled polyester raw materials, complying with green textile standards.
From the perspective of consumer demand and technological innovation, fabrics will develop in three major directions: personalization, functionality, and sustainability:
The personalized customization trend combines digital printing and hot stamping technology to support small batch and personalized pattern customization. Exclusive printing and hot stamping designs can be created according to brand needs to meet the differentiated competitive needs of clothing and soft furnishing brands.
The trend of multi-functional integration combines anti-fouling, waterproof, anti-bacterial and other functions with printing and hot stamping to develop special fabrics suitable for outdoor clothing and children's products, breaking through the limitations of "just for decoration" and enhancing the practical value of the product.
The trend of sustainable development is that the application proportion of recycled polyester raw materials will continue to increase, the popularity of environmentally friendly hot stamping foil and water-based dyes will gradually increase, and brands will pay more attention to green certification to meet consumer demand for environmentally friendly products.
